The Birmingham Board of Education (BOE) elections have concluded, with all seats determined except for those in Districts 2, 8, and 9. Sherman Collins (District 1), Derrick Billups (District 4), and Leticia Watkins Harvell (District 6) emerged victorious decisively on Tuesday. Mary Boehm (District 3), James Sullivan (District 5), and Walt “Big Walt” Wilson (District 7) faced opposition.
Terri Michal garnered 1,177 votes (48%) in District 2, while the incumbent Neonta Williams received 642 votes (26.2%). In District 8, Antwon Bernard Womack claimed 1,910 votes (44.8%), narrowly ahead of Pamela Bass at 1,865 (43.8%). District 9 saw Yamika Foy with 1,781 votes (39%) against Eric Hall’s 1,625 (35.6%).
A candidate must achieve at least 50.1% of the votes to win outright; otherwise, a runoff election is scheduled for October 7. This runoff could be pivotal for candidates like Michal and Bass, who aim to engage their communities further.
