Black Fire Brigade celebrates its sixth anniversary by opening a new Educational Center, marking a major step forward in training and empowering the next generation of first responders (Credit: Black Fire Brigade).& The Black Fire Brigade celebrated its sixth anniversary on Saturday, June 15, by opening their new BFB Educational Center. The Black Fire Brigade Training Center event was a significant milestone in their mission to train and support the next generation of first responders, a mission that has already seen 700 students placed in critical positions as fire department personnel, EMS providers, and ER technicians in various local hospitals. Since starting in 2018, led by Lieutenant Curtis and Terri Winston, the BFB has been dedicated to progress and hope in the fire rescue and EMS fields. Their first major success came in August 2018, when a fundraising drive enabled 40 young adults to begin Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) training. By January 2019, these students had secured vital fire and emergency services roles. This growth highlights their commitment to promoting diversity and excellence among first responders, ensuring that African-American youth have access to professional opportunities and that services meet the needs of diverse communities.
