A Black man is pursuing legal action against the city of Frederick, Maryland, along with its police officers and the production company of the reality series “On Patrol: Live.” He alleges he was falsely arrested for robbery and misrepresented on the show, which harmed his reputation. Kairi Myrick was approached outside his apartment building in a Frederick neighborhood on July 13, 2024, by three officers and a film crew. His lawsuit, filed in March, claims he was detained without probable cause while authorities sought a robbery suspect. The victim, reportedly intoxicated, had claimed his wallet was taken by two Black males. Despite only wearing a white T-shirt and jeans with dreadlocks, Myrick's arrest featured the police searching his bag, finding marijuana. He faced charges, which were ultimately dismissed. Myrick contends the livestream of his arrest caused public humiliation and emotional trauma, leading to his lawsuit for false imprisonment and damaging exposure, seeking compensatory damages. Half Moon Pictures argues his claims lack merit, asserting its actions were protected as accurate media reporting. The city has yet to respond.
