AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Juneteenth not only symbolizes a historic milestone but also boosts patronage for Black-owned enterprises as many individuals observe the occasion by uplifting them. In early June, Visit Augusta introduced the Bold Black Owned Business Pass, designed to link locals with businesses that celebrate culture through culinary offerings and unique experiences. This pass serves as a complimentary digital gateway, guiding patrons to embrace these vibrant establishments. While downtown Augusta boasts numerous Black-owned businesses that are grateful for the community’s support, Shirley Darby emphasizes the holiday’s deeper significance. “Juneteenth reminds us of our survival,” stated Darby, a retired educator. “I recall my mother’s and father’s struggles during tough times.” Reflecting on legacy, Taryn Hooks, daughter of Cafe on Eighth’s owner, finds inspiration in her father's entrepreneurial spirit. Rhonda Coleman stresses the importance of ongoing support: “When we uplift Black enterprises, we bolster the community and families.”
