According to Page Six, the Brooklyn Nine-Nine star died after a “months-long battle with lung cancer.” Braugher had reportedly been diagnosed with the disease “a few months” before his death. News of the actor’s cause of death came after it was announced on Tuesday (December 12) that the two-time Emmy-award-winning actor passed away on Monday (December 11) following a “brief illness.” He was 61. Braugher starred in Brooklyn Nine-Nine for eight seasons, from 2013 until 2021. For his role as Captain Raymond Holt in the comedy series, he won two Critics Choice Awards for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series and received four Emmy Award nominations. In 1998, Braugher won an Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series Emmy for his role as Detective Frank Pembleton on Homicide: Life on Street. He won his second Emmy in 2006 for his role in the FX mini-series Thief.
