The California Black Health Network (CBHN) has introduced a new initiative known as the Conscious Black Beauty Movement (CBBM). This campaign aims to illuminate the detrimental effects of toxic chemicals prevalent in beauty and haircare products primarily targeted at Black women and girls. By equipping individuals with educational resources and advocacy tools, the movement seeks to empower safer choices and advocate for comprehensive industry reform. Rhonda M. Smith, CBHN's executive director, emphasizes, “For far too long, Black women and girls have been subjected to products containing hazardous substances linked to various health issues, including uterine fibroids and breast cancer.” The initiative focuses on informing Black women and girls while providing meaningful resources and effective advocacy strategies to mitigate toxic exposure and enhance health prospects within their communities. To launch this movement, CBHN will host a free virtual educational session titled “Spreading the Beauty Truth” on Saturday, June 21, featuring industry experts and advocates discussing essential topics related to clean beauty.
