Chastanet Concerned Over Indiscriminate Killings

Opposition leader Allen Chastanet has expressed concern over Saint Lucia’s homicide surge following last week’s fatal daylight shooting at Derek Walcott Square in Castries.
Images on social media shortly after the shooting showed two individuals on a motorcycle allegedly fleeing the scene.
“People are killing people in this country indiscriminately without fear of any concern. You ride on a motorbike into the square and shoot up people,” Chastanet stated.
A medical practitioner pronounced a man, whom police identified as Jahiem Papius of Babonneau, dead at the scene.
Another male was in critical condition after Monday’s shooting, which occurred at about 2:15 pm.
According to the Saint Lucia opposition leader, “a multitude of signs” existed before, indicating that crime was out of control.
However, Chastanet asserted that Monday’s incident at Derek Walcott Square ” took the cake”.
The United Workers Party (UWP) leader declared that Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre, who is also responsible for national security, and the ruling Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) had become a danger to Saint Lucia’s people.
The former Saint Lucia Prime Minister felt it was time for the people to hold the Labour administration accountable for a “multitude of injustices.”
