Chastanet Urges Unity Against Violence After Teen’s Death

Opposition leader Allen Chastanet has urged unity in the face of escalating violence in the aftermath of this week’s fatal shooting of teenager Melchizedek Tixcy.
Tixcy would have celebrated his 14th Birthday on Friday, but on Wednesday, he died after sustaining a gunshot injury to the head.
According to reports confirmed by family members, his older brother was likely the intended target.
The family disclosed that the older brother, who is in his twenties, no longer lives at the Blanchard, Desruisseaux home.
However, on the evening of July 31, 2024, assailants opened fire at the residence, hitting the teenage student who was inside.
The incident has generated shockwaves, outrage, and expressions of sympathy throughout Saint Lucia.
Opposition leader Allen Chastanet, the MP for Micoud South, posted a Facebook message on Friday to mark what he described as Melchizedek’s “Happy Heavenly Birthday.”
The United Workers Party (UWP) leader and former Prime Minister called for unity against the rising violence in the community.
“Melchizedek was a promising young man with a bright future ahead of him, and his untimely death is a profound loss to our community,” the MP stated.
