Daughter Accused Of Murdering Mom, Dismembering Body with Chainsaw

Photo: Getty Images A Maryland woman allegedly murdered her mother, dismembered her remains, and attempted to set the body on fire in the back of their house, per PEOPLE. 46-year-old Candace Craig is on trial for the murder of her mother, 71-year-old Margaret Craig, after her remains were found by police in trash bags in the basement of their Hyattsville home in May 2023. Candace’s 21-year-old daughter, Salia Hardy, who pleaded guilty to accessory, testified that the killing unfolded after her grandmother accused her mom of stealing money from her bank account. On the day of the killing, Hardy said she heard a scream inside the home, and her mother told her to stay away from her grandmother’s bedroom. Candace also allegedly told her daughter to “look out for her sisters” if she were to go to jail, Salia testified. The next day, Salia said she found her grandmother’s body in a bin with a trash bag over her head and blood on the carpet of her room.
