NYC Extends 2025 Tax Lien Sale Deadline, Giving Property Owners More Time to Act

New York City’s Department of Finance has pushed back the deadline for the 2025 tax lien sale by two weeks, giving property owners at risk of foreclosure more time to act. Originally set for May 20, the sale is now scheduled for June 3, with the final day to resolve delinquent taxes or utility charges extended to June 2. The extension affects unpaid property taxes, water, and sewer bills. “We’re working to ensure New Yorkers have time, support, and resources to avoid losing their homes,” said DOF Commissioner Preston Niblack. Property owners can avoid inclusion by paying off debts, entering a payment plan, or applying for tax exemptions. The DOF encourages residents to seek help now, before it’s too late.
