Descartes-Pelius Attends Regional Police Commissioner’s Event

Police Commissioner Crusita Descartes-Pelius represented Saint Lucia at the 38th Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Conference of the Association of Caribbean Commissioners of Police (ACCP). The May 13 – 17, 2024, event occurred in Belize City, Belize, and was themed “Improving Regional Security through Stronger Law Enforcement Cooperation.”  The conference was a platform for in-depth discussions on crucial topics such as law enforcement collaboration, firearms control, gang prevention, and regional security preparation for the upcoming International Cricket Council (ICC) Men’s T20 World Cup. The agenda also included various strategies that Caribbean countries can employ to tackle the entrance of illegal drugs and weapons into countries, regional gun and gang violence in the Caribbean, and transnational crime. The ACCP AGM and Conference brought together representatives from the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and Commissioners of Police from 18 Caribbean countries. Since its establishment in 1987 in Castries, Saint Lucia, the ACCP has been a driving force in promoting collaboration and cooperation in the development and execution of policing strategies, systems and procedures.  It also focuses on building police officers’ capacity and implementing proactive, sustainable measures to prevent crime and enhance police-community relations.
