Dr. Daren Ellerbee, a prominent leader and Pittsburgh native, recently took the helm of the Pittsburgh Scholar House (PSH). Previously, she led the Pittsburgh Innovation Team at the Bloomberg Center for Public Innovation at Johns Hopkins University in Maryland. In her new position, Dr. Ellerbee aims to enhance PSH's role as a vital resource for income-eligible single parents pursuing two- and four-year degrees, utilizing a two-generation approach to foster economic advancement in Pittsburgh. “Leading Pittsburgh Scholar House is a privilege,” Dr. Ellerbee remarked, emphasizing her commitment to empowering families. PSH, established in April 2022, aligns with Family Scholar House’s mission, providing data-driven support for participants to attain high-growth careers. The initiative has launched the Wayfinders Program and Next Gen Scholars Initiative, positively impacting over 100 scholars. Funding from various foundations, including the Heinz Endowments and the Richard King Mellon Foundation, has supported PSH’s efforts in promoting academic success and personal growth.
