Dr. Kenny Anthony-Led CARICOM Group Ends Fourth Haiti Visit

The Dr. Kenny Anthony-led Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Eminent Persons Group (EPG) has concluded its fourth visit to Haiti amid the deteriorating security situation in the country. On its latest visit, the EPG said the group concluded a week of ‘intense negotiations’ involving Haitian stakeholders. The group indicated that the talks regarded a framework agreement to provide a transitional Government arrangement ‘to take the troubled country to free and fair elections’. In addition to former Saint Lucia Prime Minister Dr. Kenny Anthony, the EPG includes former Prime Ministers Bruce Golding and Perry Christie of Jamaica and the Bahamas, respectively. The EPG statement said representatives of a broad cross-section of political and civil society stakeholders, including Prime Minister Ariel Henry, attended the negotiations. The document’s authors said the talks provided an opportunity for narrowing differences regarding details of the transitional governance arrangement. “The draft framework agreement that formed the basis of the negotiations was prepared by the EPG and reflected the contributions of all the stakeholders over more than five months of consultations,” the release disclosed.
