Eddy Kenzo expressed his views on Azawi’s calls for fellow musicians to join protests against corruption. Kenzo suggested that Azawi’s enthusiasm might stem from a lack of experience in the industry.
As people age, they tend to speak less, influenced by their experiences. Where Azawi is now, we’ve been before. We know a lot she hasn’t yet seen, given our time in the industry. Do I seem like someone who supports corruption?
Kenzo added that Azawi might have a larger agenda behind her anti-corruption campaign.
He noted that some artists in the past have used similar initiatives either as a stepping stone to a political career or to gain attention and attract supporters for future shows.
Reflecting on his own stance, Kenzo made it clear that he cannot support demonstrations, especially those that turn violent, due to his knowledge of Uganda’s complex socio-political landscape.
