The Government of Saint Lucia has successfully secured funding for the long-anticipated expansion of the Castries–Gros Islet Highway, a critical infrastructure endeavor set to alleviate traffic congestion and enhance road safety on the island's busiest transport route. As announced by the Prime Minister's Office, two loan agreements were formalized in Washington, D.C., involving the Ministry of Finance and two international development institutions: the OPEC Fund for International Development and the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development. The OPEC Fund agreement, amounting to US$20 million, will facilitate the Monchy–Gros Islet Junction Road Expansion Project. This three-kilometre development will transform the current roadway into a dual carriageway, incorporating four roundabouts and four pedestrian bridges for improved traffic management and public safety. Additionally, the second agreement with the Kuwait Fund, signed on October 13, 2025, valued at US$13 million, will focus on road improvements from the Choc Bridge to the Marisule Junction, including a new roundabout at Marisule and enhanced drainage systems for climate resilience.
