‘Fly An Orange Flag!’ UWP Urges Silent Protest Against SLP

The opposition United Workers Party (UWP) has urged Saint Lucians to demonstrate their displeasure with the Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) administration by displaying the colour orange. “I am appealing to all Saint Lucians – fly an orange flag. Fly an orange ribbon. Tie it on your house. Tie it by your flowers. Anything orange, place it on your vehicle,” the UWP’s first deputy political leader, Guy Joseph, stated. The former Economic Development Minister told an opposition press briefing on Tuesday that the UWP was not asking people to join the party. “We are asking you to say to the government: ‘We are not pleased with what you are doing. You waived the 2.5 percent for an office building? You waived VAT for the National Trust? And the rest of us in Saint Lucia, we have to pay the 2.5 and we have to pay VAT in these hard times and we are paying $16.50 for a gallon of fuel when a barrel of fuel is only sixty-seven dollars?” Joseph stated.
