Food Safety Guidelines Issued For Jounen Kwéyòl

Recognizing the critical importance of food safety during the upcoming Jounen Kweyol festivities, the Ministry of Health, Wellness & Elderly Affairs is committed to preventing foodborne illnesses and safeguarding public health through strict food safety protocols.
The Ministry has outlined clear guidelines for food vendors and handlers, emphasizing proper temperature control, separation of raw and cooked foods, and rigorous hygiene practices to ensure a safe and enjoyable event for all.
Environmental Health Officer, Sherma Toussaint stressed the significance of these precautions. “Ensuring food safety during Jounen Kweyol is paramount. We are advising vendors to use adequate hot holding equipment such as stenos, coal pots, and warmers, and cold holding equipment like coolers and chillers to keep food at the correct temperatures for the duration of the event. This is critical to avoid the risk of foodborne illness,” Toussaint stated.
Additionally, the Ministry advises all food handlers to be vigilant about crosscontamination, especially when dealing with raw meats, seafood, and ready-to-eat foods. Separate utensils, cutting boards, and grills should be used to prevent any potential health risks.
