The construction of Saint Lucia's anticipated Halls of Justice has achieved a significant development milestone. On October 4, workers initiated the foundational work for the Annexe Building, set to accommodate six new criminal courtrooms. This concrete pour symbolizes the official commencement of construction after extensive preliminary engineering and planning efforts. Prior to this phase, specialists conducted thorough geological assessments of the site, drilling deep to evaluate soil and bedrock integrity. These analyses informed engineers in crafting a robust foundation comprising deep piles paired with a solid concrete base.Utilizing an advanced method called Continuous Flight Auger (CFA) piling, these piles extend approximately 21 meters, equal to the height of a seven-story structure, sinking deep into stable rock. The inaugural pour utilized 155 cubic meters of concrete—approximately 22 truckloads. “This foundation is built to last for generations,” stated project manager Rishi Koonoo, emphasizing its lasting community impact. Properly completed, the Annexe Building aims to enhance Saint Lucia’s judicial resources significantly. The groundbreaking $143 million project, managed by NH International (Caribbean) Ltd. and financed without taxpayer risk, promises an improved judicial experience.
