Franklin Armstrong, a beloved member of the iconic Peanuts gang since 1968, is finally stepping into the spotlight. In an exclusive Apple TV+ special, titled “Snoopy’s Presents: Welcome Home Franklin,” viewers will get a glimpse into the backstory of this pioneering Black character. Created by Charles M. Schulz, the Peanuts comic strip has long been a staple in popular culture. However, it wasn’t until 1968 that Franklin made his debut, becoming the first Black character in the Peanuts universe. Now, just in time for Black History Month, fans can delve deeper into Franklin’s world. “We’re really excited about the Franklin special,” said Craig Schulz, son of Peanuts creator Charles M. Schulz, in a recent interview. Schulz, along with his son Bryan Schulz and Cornelius Uliano, spearheaded the special project. To ensure accuracy and authenticity, they collaborated with African American cartoonist Robb Armstrong. “We knew this was going to be tricky,” Craig Schulz continued. “We couldn’t just have three white guys writing this.” Directed by Emmy-award winning director Raymond S.
