The French Navy struck another blow against illegal drugs when the frigate Ventôse seized 2.4 tonnes of cocaine from a Venezuelan fishing vessel. The Force Armées aux Antilles disclosed that the May 15 seizure, in partnership with other law enforcement agencies, occurred 820 miles northeast of Martinique. Ventôse crew members boarded the Venezuelan fishing vessel and confiscated 81 bales of cocaine. The French authorities handed the illegal cargo and the Venezuelan vessel’s crew members over to Venezuelan authorities at sea. It was the seventh French Navy drug seizure for 2024, bringing the total of confiscated narcotics to more than twelve tonnes.
