Friday Institute for Educational Innovation Presents Prestigious Friday Medal to Maria Pitre-Martin

Maria Pitre-Martin, executive director of the SERVE Center at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, has received the Friday Medal from the Friday Institute for Educational Innovation at North Carolina State University. The medal, presented annually in recognition of outstanding contributions to advancing innovation in education, is the institution’s highest honor.
Dr. Pitre-Martin has led UNC Greensboro’s SERVE Center for the past year, overseeing its operations and leading contracted research, evaluation, and customized support for educational organizations across the country. She has extensive experience in North Carolina education, previously serving as the executive director of the board of operations and policy for the North Carolina State Board of Education. Earlier in her career, she held several roles with the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction including deputy state superintendent, chief academic and digital officer, state director of K-12 curriculum and instruction, and regional lead coordinater. Outside of her public service roles, Dr. Pitre-Martin has held several executive administrative roles with school districts in North Carolina, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Louisiana, and Texas.
