Renowned actor Gene Hackman, who left behind an impressive $80 million estate, reportedly passed away with almost $100,000 in overdue credit card obligations. According to court filings, on July 1, Citibank lodged a claim against Hackman’s estate, seeking $98,345.29 for an unpaid MasterCard balance, as reported by The Daily Mail. Additionally, his late wife, Betsy Arakawa, incurred debts of $4,329.75 to Bank of America, pushing the total claim to just over $102,000.This startling information emerged following the tragic discovery of the couple's bodies in their remote New Mexico residence in February. Betsy, 65, likely succumbed to hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, while Gene, having silently battled Alzheimer’s, passed away from related complications and heart disease shortly thereafter. A maintenance worker found them alongside one of their dogs.Hackman, a distinguished two-time Academy Award winner famed for roles in “The French Connection,” “Unforgiven,” and “Hoosiers,” retired from acting in the early 2000s.
