From October 28-30, Saint Lucia will host international specialists in trade, policy, and sustainability for two high-caliber workshops geared toward fostering a more sustainable and inclusive Caribbean economy. These significant events are set to occur at the Harbor Club in Rodney Bay under the Remaking Trade for a Sustainable Future Project (RTP). Co-led by Saint Lucian trade authority Dr. Jan Yves Remy, who directs the Shridath Ramphal Centre for International Trade Law, Policy, and Services at The University of the West Indies (UWI) Cave Hill Campus, the initiative, inaugurated in 2023, aims to align global trade policies with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). After successful discussions in various global cities, RTP now focuses on the Caribbean, emphasizing its pivotal role in sustainable trade transformations. The first workshop on October 28 will delve into the CARICOM Industrial Policy and Strategy (CIPS), outlining methods to bolster economic resilience. The subsequent sessions on the 29th and 30th will investigate the burgeoning global bioeconomy and its potential growth avenues across several key sectors.
