GOAF Rolls Out Aid Initiative For Traumatized Children Of Abuse

Girls of A Feather (GOAF) inaugurated the Independent Child Protection Advisor (ICPA) Programme on November 20, marking World Children’s Day. Funded by the European Union, this initiative aims to provide traumatized child victims of abuse with informed emotional assistance as they maneuver through the complexities of the criminal justice framework. This marks GOAF's inaugural community-driven response to child abuse, following nine months of meticulous planning.During the launch event, Fiona Ramsey, Head of the European Union Delegation to Barbados and the OECS, emphasized the foundational work by local authorities, such as the Domestic Violence Act and Family Court initiatives. “This Network of Independent Child Protection Advisors will serve as a vital link between vulnerable children and essential public services,” Ramsey remarked.Following two months of specialized training, eight candidates were prepared, with six becoming advisors. Collaborating with Lime Culture, local child protection professionals provided essential training. According to GOAF, Director of the Department of Gender Affairs, Janey Joseph, also extended strong support for the initiative.
