Graffiti artists transform school library into religious area of ‘wonder’

The library at Mepal and Witcham CofE Primary School once was a “tired building”, however, headteacher Corey Snuggs decided that the space needed a transformation.  The head enlisted the help of graffiti artists StreetsArts, from Peterborough, to help transform the bare walls into a work of art. The art on the walls depicts the Creation Story of how Christians believe the world was created. It also has reference to the Big Bang, a contrasting scientific view of the world’s creation. (Image: Mepal and Witcham CofE Primary School) The story merges across the walls, going from the Big Bang into Day One of the Creation Story, where God created light. The merging of the two stories is to encourage the students to question and wonder about the different perspectives on how the world began. The journey then continues around the room and finishes with day seven – the day of rest. Students are encouraged to visit this spiritual space in the library where they can both pray and reflect.
