The Atlanta police officer who fatally shot an unarmed Black man in 2020, Garrett Rolfe, has recently been arrested on assault charges following a bar altercation in Midtown Atlanta. Rolfe entered Fulton County Jail on July 30, facing a simple assault charge linked to a dispute at X Midtown on Piedmont Avenue in June. According to reports, the incident transpired at 1:20 a.m. on June 29, when Rolfe, off duty with a friend, became involved after his companion took a photo of a bartender amid a pricing dispute. Tensions escalated when the bartender’s girlfriend demanded the image be deleted. Rolfe claimed that he was physically confronted, alleging he was shoved against a wall and choked. He asserted he acted in self-defense. In contrast, the bar employee accused Rolfe of instigating the fight. The incident led to Rolfe being put on administrative leave with ongoing investigations. X Midtown's owner supported the charges against Rolfe, emphasizing the need for accountability in law enforcement. (Photo: YouTube screenshot/11 Alive)
