President Donald Trump has rejected Maryland Governor Wes Moore's plea for disaster relief following severe flooding in western Maryland during May. In contrast, he approved recovery funds for states like Michigan, Indiana, West Virginia, and Kentucky.Moore sought nearly $16 million from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to aid the severely affected Allegany and Garrett counties after record flash floods devastated more than 200 properties on May 12, raising Georges Creek to an unprecedented level of 12.4 feet.According to the Maryland Reporter, the flooding also wreaked havoc on roads, bridges, public utilities, and drinking water systems across several towns. A state official remarked that the federal response was merely a basic letter of denial.Despite this setback, Moore asserted that the state met FEMA's criteria and plans to appeal the decision.
