Historic Honor: The Six Triple Eight, the Black Female WWII Unit, to be Awarded the Congressional Gold Medal

The historic 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, recognized as the only Black, all-female unit in WWII Europe, will receive the Congressional Gold Medal. This acknowledgment follows years of advocacy for their contributions, including rectifying a significant mail backlog and inspiring future generations of Black military women. Led by Lt. Col. Charity Adams Earley, the unit processed 17 million mail pieces swiftly and efficiently. Emancipation Hall will host the awarding ceremony, highlighting the long-overdue tribute to these remarkable women. Their story is finally gaining the recognition it deserves.
