HU conference addresses mental health in Black communities

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — Hampton University’s (HU) Department of Psychology is kicking off its Inaugural Black Decolonial Psychology Conference from January 26-27. The conference, “Decolonizing, Liberating, and Healing the Black Pyche-Soul,” will bring participants together to explore mental health and perspectives within the Black community. “The HU Department of Psychology looks forward to fostering a dynamic and impactful dialogue and space of reflection that contributes to the advancement of decolonial psychology and healing,” HU Department of Psychology chair Dr. O’Shan Gadsden said. The conference will be held at the Hampton University Student Center, located at 700 Emancipation Drive. The conference is open to the public, and tickets must be purchased to attend. The conference includes: the Decolonizing Racial Trauma and Healing: Theory, Treatment, and Assessment workshop, Dr. Shena Young’s book signing, and the Black Psychologists Wall of Fame Luncheon.
