A Texas man, aged 64, is confronting felony charges for allegedly attempting to strike his neighbor with a vehicle while using racial epithets. Jesse Ruffer faces charges of felony aggravated assault linked to an incident on June 16 in a west Houston area. The victim, Blaine McShall, claims he was strolling down the street when Ruffer drove perilously close after McShall stepped off the sidewalk to sidestep a puddle. A Marine veteran, McShall recounted that Ruffer shouted racial insults at him, saying, "If you want to walk in the street like a n—r, I’ll run you down like a n—r." Shocked by the outburst, McShall opted to contact authorities instead of responding.During Ruffer’s bond hearing, the prosecution sought a bail amount of $51,000, citing his vehicle as a lethal weapon, along with a history of a terroristic threat charge. Although his defense attorney requested a $15,000 bond, the judge ultimately established it at $20,000, imposing restrictions to ensure McShall's safety. If found guilty, Ruffer could face a 20-year imprisonment sentence.
