Jackson State University Announces Loan Repayment Assistance Program for Teacher Education Majors

Jackson State University in Mississippi has announced a new Loan Repayment Assistance Program (LRAP) to help students and their families with the financial burden of repaying student loans after graduation, as well as address the shortage of teachers in the state of Mississippi. The program promises that if an eligible student’s post-graduate income is less than $45,000, LRAP will assist with repaying federal, private, and parent PLUS loans. The unique initiative is the first of its kind at a historically Black college or university. The new financial assistance opportunity is available starting with the 2024-2025 freshman class. LRAP will be available to all teacher education majors, as well as students in need as determined by the Office of Admissions. Kylon Alford-Windfield, vice president for enrollment management, stated, “Jackson State has a rich history as a teaching college, serving as a nurturing environment for young individuals to grow into tomorrow’s leaders. Our goal is to alleviate the financial burdens of our students, particularly teacher education students, enabling them to focus on their careers without the worry of student loan debt.
