Jacob Omutuuze Calls for Regulation to Improve Uganda’s Music Industry

Renowned media personality and analyst Jacob Omutuuze has spoken out on what leaders need to do to boost Uganda’s music industry.
According to him, the industry, which employs many young people, is underperforming in terms of revenue, particularly when compared to other countries with more structured systems.
Omutuuze noted that one of the major challenges in Uganda’s music industry is the absence of clear rules and regulations.
He highlighted the fact that artists operate freely, without oversight, and can make critical decisions—such as scheduling concerts—without considering the potential financial impact on others.
Artists can even decide to have concerts on the same date, which often results in one person making profits while another suffers losses. This lack of coordination is unfair and harmful to the industry.

Omutuuze believes that with proper regulation, the industry could thrive. He suggested that musicians who violate industry guidelines should face consequences. This would encourage discipline, elevate standards, and foster healthy competition among artists.
