Saint Lucia’s Health, Wellness and Elderly Affairs Minister, Moses Jn. Baptiste has underscored the responsibility of governments to ensure healthcare professionals’ safety, security, and mental well-being. According to a Ministry release, Jn. Baptiste stressed the pressing need to protect healthcare workers, particularly in environments impacted by crime and violence. The Minister led a local delegation to the Forty-Seventh Council for Human and Social Development (COHSOD) meeting in Washington, D.C. The Health Ministry release said Jn. Baptiste actively participated in discussions, making key contributions regarding the intersection of crime, violence, and public health. Jn. Baptiste said focusing on the plight of healthcare professionals at public facilities was urgent. “These individuals are on the frontlines, often working in challenging and dangerous environments, especially in areas affected by crime and violence,” the release quoted him saying. ” We must prioritise the mental health of our healthcare workers, creating a supportive environment where they feel protected and valued,” Jn. Baptiste declared. The Minister said in so doing,  the healthcare professionals could continue providing essential services to the people of Saint Lucia and the Caribbean.
