Julien Alfred into Paris Semis

Saint Lucia’s Julien Alfred is into the semifinals of the women’s 100m at the Olympic Games in Paris, France. Running at 6:00 am Friday in Lane 9 at the Stade de France, the World Indoor Champion over 60m easily negotiated Round 1 of her first event. “One race at a time is the best way to handle it,” said Alfred ahead of the race. She completed the heat in 10.95 seconds, into a headwind of -0.7 metres per second. The 23-year-old from Ciceron had the third-fastest reaction time, 0.161 of a second. She finished well clear of New Zealand’s Zoe Hobbs (11.08 seconds). Previously, 2023 World Champion Sha’Carri Richardson of the USA, 24 years old, won the opening heat in 10.94 seconds.
