Julien Alfred Strikes Historic Gold In 60m Dash

Julien Alfred gained Saint Lucia’s first-ever global Gold Medal, winning the 60m Dash at the World Indoor Athletics Championships.
Alfred clocked a time of 6.98 on Saturday.
The 22-year-old churned through the middle of Poland’s Ewa Swoboda (7.00s) and Italy’s Zaynab Dosso (7.05s) to finish tops.
After the race, Alfred explained that she had been working hard for a long time to give her country its first-ever gold medal.
“I am so happy, overwhelmed and ecstatic right now,” she declared.
Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre and opposition leader Allen Chastanet hailed Alfred’s historic victory.
“An exceptional performance by Ms. Alfred!” Pierre asserted on Facebook.
“Join me in congratulating our very own Julien Alfred on winning the 60m sprint at the World Athletics Indoor Championships 2024! Thank you for this historic moment for our country,” the Prime Minister wrote.
Chastanet wrote on Facebook: “Congratulations to Julien Alfred on winning the 60m Final at the World Athletics Championships with a time of 6.98. This latest win has earned Saint Lucia our first gold medal in the history of the World Indoor Championship.”
Youth and Sports Minister Kenson Casimir also joined in congratulating Alfred.
