Juneteenth celebrations in the D.C., Maryland and Virginia area

Though millions of slaves in Confederate territory had been freed on Jan. 1, 1863, slaves in Texas did not receive word of new law until June 19, 1865.On June 19, the Anacostia Community Center will host a Juneteenth Community Day Celebration, offering musical performances and fun for all ages.
