Kyren Lacy's Tragic Death: Addressing the Urgent Crisis Among Black College Athletes in a Post-DEI Era

On April 11, 2024, LSU wide receiver Kyren Lacy tragically died by suicide after an intense police pursuit. This devastating event shocked the realm of college athletics, illuminating the severe mental health crisis disproportionately impacting Black student-athletes. It raises pivotal inquiries regarding their support systems, particularly as Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs face erosion across campuses. With legal issues and societal pressures mounting, these athletes require tailored psychological support. The disappearance of DEI initiatives jeopardizes their well-being, demanding renewed advocacy and immediate action from institutional frameworks. We owe it to Kyren and others like him to instigate meaningful change.
