Las Vegas healthcare workers highlight Black Maternal Health Week

LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — Local healthcare workers are joining forces to recognize Black Maternal Health Week. Assemblywoman Shondra Summers-Armstrong kicked off a panel discussion at the Doolittle Senior Center on Wednesday to highlight health disparities among Black women. Health equity advocates voiced actions in the valley and spoke on President Biden and Vice President Harris’s efforts to combat the Black maternal mortality rate. One study also found that women living in states with abortion bans are up to three times more likely to die in pregnancy, during childbirth, or soon after giving birth. The event aims to raise awareness of health disparities so Black women can have healthy and safe pregnancies and births regardless of where they live.
