Former NFL great and registered sex offender Lawrence Taylor has been selected for President Donald Trump’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition. Taylor expressed his bewilderment, stating, “I don’t know why.” On July 31, Trump welcomed Taylor, the legendary linebacker of the New York Giants, to the White House during a youth fitness initiative. The President signed an executive order that reinstated the Presidential Fitness Test for American youth and relaunched the council. Taylor joined notable members, including golfer Bryson DeChambeau and Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker. During the event, Trump praised Taylor, calling him the greatest defensive player in NFL history and a long-time friend. Taylor, addressing the audience, acknowledged his uncertainty regarding his responsibilities on the council, reiterating his commitment to serve. Controversially, media personality Van Lathan criticized Taylor’s attendance, highlighting the unsettling implications of Trump's choice to involve a figure with a troubling past in a youth-focused initiative.
