Lawrence Township to host open house showcasing recent renovations

The Metropolitan School District (MSD) of Lawrence Township will showcase upgrades to its two high schools during a community dedication and open house Oct. 6. This event marks the culmination of extensive renovations made possible by a $230 million capital referendum approved in 2019. The district’s high schools, Lawrence Central and Lawrence North have undergone renovations aimed at creating modern educational environments. Lawrence Central had not seen major renovations since 1993, while Lawrence North, which opened in 1976, was due for a comprehensive update. The tax increase of 17 cents per $100 assessed valuation will fund these enhancements over the next 20 years. Board President Wendy Muston expressed her enthusiasm concerning the renovations. “We are thrilled to share these completed beautiful learning spaces with our community,” Muston& said in a statement. “These renovations were a labor of love and reflect our commitment to providing the best possible learning and teaching spaces for both students and staff.” Superintendent Dr. Shawn Smith echoed similar sentiments. “With the overwhelming support of the community, we have completely transformed our high schools to reflect 21st-century teaching and learning,” Smith said in a statement. “This community’s investment in public education is an investment in the future.”...
