Letter: Send slavery reparations bill to the Democratic Party

To the editor — New York Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul at the signing of a bill to study slavery reparations said “slavery was a product of the South and the Confederacy.” She should have added to that list the Democratic Party. In 1860 only Democrats owned slaves. Only Democratic governors and legislatures seceded from the Union in order to keep them. The constitution of the Confederate States of America enshrined slavery forever. I think one of the options for the New Yorkers is have the DNC pay up. TOM BRACEWELL Yakima
