(The Dallas Examiner) – The Parrish Charitable Foundation has created a new tradition that’s being run with a purpose. The inaugural Parrish Best Southwest Relays garnered excitement from the community as local businessman and philanthropist Roland Parrish committed $50,000 to underserved summer track teams. Over 7,000 fans and numerous track teams gathered at DeSoto High School Eagle Stadium on May 18 to compete in various relays. In a significant gesture of support, Parrish’s foundation distributed the cash awards to the Amateur Athletic Union summer track teams to aid in their travel to the Junior Olympics in July. This funding aims to empower and inspire young athletes by providing them with opportunities they might not otherwise have. International, city and state officials joined in the celebration, including the Consul General of Mexico, Francisco de la Torre Galindo who presented the official silver medallion of the 1968 Mexico City Olympics to Carlos.
