Mental health advocates discuss stigmas surrounding mental health in black communities

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Everyone should have access to mental health resources in their community. May is Mental Health Awareness Month, so WCTV is introducing a new segment called Mindful Moment to help viewers care for their wellbeing.
Dr. Fran Close and Nicole Everett are members of the Mental Health Council of the Big Bend. Both mental health advocates visited WCTV studios to talk about the stigmas surrounding mental health in African American communities. They had an in depth conversation with Brianna Shaw on the Good Morning Show about the importance of seeking treatment. They also shared what to expect at the 5th annual Be Kind to your Mind event happening on Thursday May 16th at the Walker Ford Community Center. It’s a family friendly event to spread awareness and provide mental health resources.
