NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Frustrated by the lack of gun reform in Tennessee, a Nashville mother decided she would join the world of politics to evoke change.Tuesday night, she made it over the first hurdle, securing the seat in Davidson County’s House District 60.Shaundelle Brooks (D) defeated Chad Bobo (R) in Tuesday’s election.Brooks set out to run for the Tennessee State House in December of 2023 after she said she “watched politicians do nothing to stop gun violence.”Brooks’ son, Akilah Dasilva, was one of the four people killed in the 2018 Waffle House shooting in Antioch. Since the shooting, Brooks has been advocating for gun reform on the state and national level.Brooks and Bobo won their respective party seats during the August primary election.
