Murals of Midvale: Life and legacy bring new hope to Main Street

MIDVALE, Utah (ABC4) — Midvale Main Street is starting to look more colorful, with vibrant hues of red, blue, yellow, and green across the walls depicting the city’s rich history.
In June, the city held its third “Los Muros on Main” event, marking 40 murals across historic Main Street. Mayor Marcus Stevenson commented so many murals in a fairly small area feel like a walking art gallery. He said when they first started the Muros on Main event, they were looking for a way to revitalize historic Main Street.

“Art is a proven way to do this,” he said. “We’re really working to turn our historic Main Street into an arts and culture district. We’re bringing in restaurants. We’re bringing in entertainment onto the street. We’re coming up with programs to support the business owners, the property owners that are in the area,” he said.
The mayor added that the murals also make Main Street safer, as they help deter graffiti.
