New murals coming to downtown Spokane

SPOKANE, Wash. – Five muralists will craft murals adorning the walls of the Saranac Community Building in downtown Spokane over several weeks this summer.  The project will last from June 24 to July 10 according to the Saranac Building. “The vision of the Community Building Community at the East end of West Main Street is to create a living art alley from end to end that encourages curiosity, increases foot traffic, and can be enjoyed all year round,” the business said.  Artists Amber Hoit, Daniel Lopez, Brittany Trambitas, Danielle Davis and Desire McGinn will be featured.  Lopez is perhaps best known for his striking mural of Jesus on West 2nd Avenue, which has drawn national acclaim since its installation in 2018.  The murals will be on the side of Merlyn’s Comics and Games, the adjoining business to the Saranac Commons. Merlyn’s owner John Waite is excited for Hoit’s piece showcasing Black superheroes.  “We at Merlyn’s are really excited to be part of this beautification of our neighborhood alley! The Superhero design by Amber Hoit is perfect for us,” Waite said.  A public block party to showcase the murals is planned for July 11 from 12 to 4 pm.
