Coastal Parishes Gain Stronger Fire Protection Thanks To Newly Completed West Coast Response Center

The West Coast Fire Station is now fully operational and ready to serve residents of Anse La Raye, Canaries, and nearby areas. Chief Fire Officer Ditney Downes remarked on the challenges of securing a suitable building for the location, sharing that they eventually identified an available property, promptly notifying the Prime Minister. Before this opening, emergency crews from Castries and Soufrière faced lengthy travel times along twisting coastal routes, which could hinder rapid response during emergencies. Former representative Wayne Girard emphasized at the ceremony the significance of the station, stating it provides greater safety and quicker emergency response for families in the community. Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre underscored the station's universal accessibility, emphasizing that emergencies transcend political affiliations. Additionally, Downes announced a mentorship initiative for 15 vulnerable young males from the community, aiming to build life skills and self-esteem.
