New findings presented at the 2025 American Society for Clinical Oncology (ASCO) annual meeting illuminate the urgent issue of clinical trial accessibility for triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) in the U.S., particularly for Black women. While residing far from trial locations may not be the primary barrier to participation, millions of women remain in regions devoid of available trials. Conducted research analyzed over 510,000 trials to assess geographic disparities in TNBC trial accessibility. The study identified 108 ongoing trials, yet many sites lacked adequate options. The results emphasize the critical need for inclusive representation in clinical studies, as biological and sociocultural factors impacting Black women necessitate their involvement for truly effective treatment development. Addressing these gaps can enhance trust and ultimately improve health outcomes for all.
