Detective Allan Reddins, 40, of Chicago was killed in the line of duty on Friday morning.
Reddins responded to reports of an armed individual near the 1000 block of Lake Street around 9:30 a.m. As he and other officers approached, the suspect brandished a gun in the 800 block of Lake.&
Shots were fired, and Reddins was struck on his left side. He was rushed to Loyola University Medical Center in critical condition but succumbed to his injuries at 10:10 a.m.

The suspect, who was shot in the leg during the exchange, was taken into custody and is being treated at Loyola. His condition is stable, police said. Authorities cordoned off the area for investigation.
