Pavee, Castries, resident Mary Solomon, surrounded by her family and well-wishers, celebrated her 100th birthday Friday.
Solomon worked hard for a living and believes that contributed to her longevity.
She toiled in the banana industry, carried stones from a quarry, and worked at the public laundry at Pavee, Castries, until she retired.
The centenarian gave birth to twelve children, three of whom are deceased.
“I am happy to be here and if there’s a little tear, it’s a tear of joy,” one of the daughters told reporters.
The daughter said it was an honour to celebrate with her mother, who had worked hard to raise them.
